OVERVIEW / HISTORY
Butchers Hill lays claim to one of the most interesting names of all Baltimore's neighborhoods. Formerly known as "Loudenslagers Hill", (named for a Butcher named Jacob Loudenslager who resided in Butchers Hill), Butchers Hill received its name when many Butchers followed Loudenslager taking homes in the area. The area served as a receiving area for livestock received from farms North of Baltimore. It's proximity to the Fells Point market, made "Butchers Hill" a convenient area for processing livestock.
Today, Butchers Hill is a popular neighborhood for people of all different races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. The neighborhoods' tree-lined streets, large homes, beautiful architecture, and proximity to Patterson Park make Butchers Hill a great place to live.
